Maps are a special type of diagram. They combine numerous layers of information: colours, symbols, typography, spacing, contrasts, textures – and, not least, their political dimension. Maps also require extensive data and complex software to create – which is not as straightforward as it might seem. We therefore need to approach map design step by step. We also want to discuss the maps you’ve brought along this week. After that, we’ll design our own maps.
